The widow of David Berman has appeared in Manchester court charged with his murder
June 11, 2025 11:45A 70-year-old widow has been charged with murdering her Jewish husband, whose body was discovered at his Greater Manchester home in March.
David Berman, 84, a businessman and great-grandfather as well as a member of the local Jewish community, was found dead at his home on Butterstile Lane, Prestwich, on March 13.
Greater Manchester Police said after initial enquiries that the injuries he sustained were deemed “suspicious”. His widow has now been accused of mariticide.
Daryl Berman, 70, also of Butterstile Lane, appeared at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday charged with murder.
Officers are still appealing for anyone with information in connection with the incident to come forward.
Daryl Berman was married to her late husband for over 26 years.
The court was told how she allegedly murdered him “on or about March 13 2025”.
According to The Daily Mail, the hearing lasted two minutes and Daryl Berman spoke only to confirm her name, date of birth and address before being remanded into custody.
David Berman was married three times and was a well-known member of the local community. He was married to his first wife for 19 years, with whom he had two children, and to his second wife for seven years. He was then married to Daryl Berman for 26 years.
At the time of his death, he was described by my neighbours as a “lovely man” with a “big heart” and a “gentleman”.
He had recently retired after running his own joinery firm. He told the Jewish Telegraph before his retirement last September: “My biggest accomplishment was being kept busy for as long as I have.”
He said that joinery runs in his family, with his grandfather, Joe Pollick, having been a joiner as well as his great-uncles. He left school at 15 to work as an apprentice for his grandfather.
But Berman joked that joinery is no longer a job for a Jewish boy, “as it is too manual”.
